St. Augustine, Fl

The oldest City in the nation. In September 1565, Pedro Menendez and 700 soldiers and colonists landed here and founded St. Augustine, making it the oldest continually occupied European settlement in N. America.

We took a tour of the St Augustine Lighthouse which was built in 1874 out of brick and iron at a cost of $100,000 (can you buy a house for that price?) . It is 165' tall with 219 steps to the top. WE MADE IT to the top! It is still a fully functional lighthouse, on at dusk off at dawn.

A view from the top.

The two following photos are from the bottom floor looking up the spiral stairs and then from the top floor looking down the spiral stairs.
