River Walk was developed in 1929 by architect Robert Hugman as a flood control project for downtown San Antonio. It now consists of sidewalks and staircases to take people between street level and the river, one level below. The first restaurant to open was the Casa Rio in 1946 and has expanded to include eights miles of development along the river.
The Tower of The Americas was built for the 1968 Worlds Fair as the theme...HemisFair '68. It is 750' tall (tip of antenna) and has an observation deck and restaurant.
