Legacy Bike Trail

Sarasota County opened the 'Legacy Trail' in 2008. It consists of 10 miles of paved trail from Sarasota to Venice. The trail is fairly flat as it used to be a former CSX railroad corridor. The county purchased the land in 2004 for $11.75 million.

There are seven trailheads along the route as well as rest areas with restroom facilities. The trail is closed from dusk until dawn.

 We rode almost the full trail, nine miles each way. The trail ends right now at US 41 where a new overpass is being constructed, opening summer 2011.
