The 'Heritage Trail' was chosen by editors 'Life' magazine as "One of Americas Most Scenic Drives". It travels through many Amish communities and along country backroads. Many people start on the trail in Elkhart with a free audio CD. Towns on the trail include Bristol, Middlebury, Shipshewana, Goshen, Nappanee and Wakarusa.

| Most of the Amish horses come from racing stock. The average speed is 5-10 mph. All Illinois Amish buggies are black. |
Between Bristol and Middlebury is the Bonnyville Mill park. It is Indiana's oldest continuously operating grist mill. It was established in the mid 1830's. It has a horizontal water wheel that produces more horsepower than a vertical wheel.

Krider Gardens was originally designed for the 1933/34 Chicago Worlds Fair. It was restored by the City of Middlebury.
