Museum of South Texas History

Located in Edinburg, TX. The Museum chronicles the heritage of South Texas and NE Mexico.

It originally opened in 1967 in the old Hidalgo County Jail (built in 1910) which is now part of the Museum.

Only one hanging ever took place here.

In 2003 the Museum completed a $5.5 million expansion that added 22,500 square feet. This added the permanent exhibit the 'Rio Grande Legacy'. A self guided tour, it takes you on a journey through the pre-history and history of the region.
