Laguna Atascosa NWR

Laguna Atascosa is located about 18 miles east of Harlingen thru Rio Hondo. It is the largest protected habitat remaining in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. It consists of three separate units totaling over 89,000 acres.

Over 413 species of birds have been recorded here, more than any other National Wildlife Refuge in the U.S. Wintering and migratory birds from the Central and Mississippi flyways converge here.

Blue Heron

Great Egret

Green Jays

Hawk

There are walking tours as well as a 15 mile scenic bayside drive along the coast of the Laguna Madre.

This nine band armadillo was spotted grubbing for worms along the bayside drive.

And how many government workers does it take to.....
