South Padre Island

Also called 'the Island' by the locals. The 'Island' is connected to the mainland by the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge...2 1/2 miles long. The 'island is actually a barrier reef that protects the mainland and is 34 miles long. It is 1/2 mile wide at the largest part.

The Island is host to hundreds of condo and hotel rooms and more being built. There are also two Cameron County Parks and one private KOA for camping. The redtide was almost negligible while we were on the beaches today.

One of the jetties that is popular for fishing.

Plenty of 'locals' eager to pose.
