Nuevo Progresso, Mexico

We decided to venture across the southern border of Texas and the U.S to Progreso, Mexico. With all of the violence that has been reported on TV and in the newspapers, it is one of the safest cities to cross into Mexico. There is no military presence (visible anyhow) in this small border town. Population is about 10,178.

This is a toll bridge into Mexico, $2.00 for autos, $.50 for motorcycles and $.25 for pedestrians and $2.00 for parking nearby. If you take a vehicle into Mexico you have to purchase Mexican auto insurance.

If you are in need of a dentist or pharmacy, Progreso has plenty. It seems like every other store front is a dentist or pharmacy. Most U.S prescriptions can be filled here cheap and with out a DR's note. Trinkets, alcohol, leather items are among the items that can be bought here.
